Salary Range: CAD $65,000 – $109,000

Position Summary:

The ICU Registered Nurse provides high-quality, compassionate, and evidence-based care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. You will work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to manage complex and acute patient needs. This position is open to Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) who meet Canadian licensing requirements and wish to build their careers in public or private hospitals across Canada.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill patients in the ICU, ensuring patient safety, dignity, and respect.
  • Perform ongoing patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and manage advanced life-support equipment (e.g., ventilators, infusion pumps).
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and changes in patient conditions.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation in accordance with hospital policies and provincial standards.
  • Comply with infection control, patient safety, and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing education and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in your home country and eligibility to register with the provincial nursing regulatory body (e.g., BCCNM for BC, CNO for Ontario, CRNM for Manitoba, CRNA for Alberta, CRNNL for Newfoundland and Labrador, ARNPEI for PEI).
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent, full-time experience working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Critical Care setting.
  • English language proficiency (IELTS Academic or CELBAN) as required for Canadian RN licensure.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
  • Willingness to participate in bridging or orientation programs as required for IENs.

 

Preferred:

  • Additional critical care certifications (e.g., CCRN, TNCC).
  • Familiarity with Canadian healthcare standards and protocols.

 

Additional Information for IENs:

  • Support with Canadian RN licensing and registration process may be available.
  • Comprehensive orientation and onboarding programs to ease transition into the Canadian healthcare system.
  • Relocation assistance and settlement support may be provided by some employers.

Salary:

Approximate annual salary: CAD $65,000 – $109,000, depending on province, collective agreements, and level of experience.
